Eat · Rose Diner & Bar

It's getting cold out there, you may have noticed, and we've been warming our cockles down at Rose Diner and Bar, Port Melbourne with mulled wine and plenty of nostalgic nibbles.

UK born chef Stephen Drake has created a menu that reads like a bed-time story - steak Diane, Coronation Chicken Vol au Vents, Prawn Cocktail - complete with Martini glass bowl, pickled sardines and Welsh Rarebit croquettes - and that's just for starters. There's Knickerbockerglory, Bread and Butter Pudding and, like any good English menu, there's Mum's trifle too.

But it's not all about recreating something the CWA would be proud of. On tap are some of Australia's best brews, with Little Creatures and White Rabbit breweries leading the way. The wine list offers a range of Victorian wines to suit any palate, with some European choices that will make you oooh la la your way to the bar for more.

But the fun doesn't stop there. Head upstairs to Back Bar for smooth tunes, Sarsaparilla Spiders and Brandy Crusters or head 'out the back' to Little Rose for a breakfast to tug on the heart strings. All hail the return of the jaffle. Fillings may be a little more grown up, but your faves are still there; cheese and ham and of course baked bean, sitting along side confit duck and apple jelly or tomato, goat's cheese and basil.

Round off with a Salted Caramel shake, or our fave Milo and everyone's back in their youth.

Got lots of mates? Head upstairs to the front of Rose Diner and celebrate in true Rose Diner style.
